What happens to pizza left 12 days in the frige?
Yesterday I ate some old pizza that made me sick; 4 slices of hand tossed, chicken pizza from Pizza Hut. It was dehydrated and I used the microwave to soften it up. Until then, I kept it in the original box in my refrigerator. At the time I ate it, I did not see any visible evidence of mold or rot. I’m curious what happened to the pizza over this time that made it unhealthy to eat. Why?

It was most likely the chicken that spoiled….I would bet the rest was simply dried out and when you consider the ingredients outside of the chicken, all of them are basically harmless when aged ,dried out, etc…the chicken was your culprit! No meat is safe when it spoils at any age! Hope you are feeling better! MsSmurfy
Chicken as a cooked product only has a shelf life of a minimum of 3 days. You went past that by 9 days. Next time order a medium pizza not the large and finish it off quick! Moonwake
If the chicken was bad you would probably have tasted it. I have eaten pizza much older than 12 days. Chances are you got sick from eating 4 slices. If you are used to eating that much at one time, it was most likely the dough. Hand tossed is thicker, so it spoils faster than chicken. The yeast in the dough is more likely to grow bacteria than any other part of the pizza. nyeviolet
itll dry and curl up. Spitzy
Lmao. Bad, bad, bad. I’d say it was a mixture of the dough and the chicken. Mostly the chicken, though, since it goes off very quickly even when cooked. I left some cooked, diced chicken in the fridge overnight without plastic wrap or a plastic bag because we had none, and it went so dry and disgusting. I really hope you’re feeling better! Don’t eat 12 day old pizza next time, though. Be a pig and eat the whole thing in one night, two, or three! xD Danel
